This is one of the best Mountains in Bulgaria to visit in winter if you like hiking or playing in snow. Located in the centre of Bulgaria, the summers are hot, while the winters are sunny and mild. Lacking the sheer rocks and craggy peaks, the Middle Forest is an ideal place for gentle walks among the wilderness.
The main treasure of the Mountain is the ancient broad-leaved forest. The walk passes through the natural reserve Bogdan, designated to preserve the beech forest. But there are many others: the comfortable mountain huts offer warm bed and delicious food, the easy access to the place and the hot mineral water springs around. People have been flocking for years to the nearby SPA-resorts Hisarya, Strelcha, Panaguriste, Starlosel and others to take advantage of the hot mineral baths and the premium quality wine.
For those interested in history and architecture, the region is history-studded. The town of Koprivshtitsa is a history and architecture reserve, while the town of Starosel is famous for the ancient Thracian remains.

Snowshoes can be rented but their use is not obligatory.

• Accommodation: The huts Srednogorets, Fenera and Buntovna are cosy and well-maintained. Also they offer delicious food.

• Security: The trail is totally secure. All parts of the trail are marked. The area is served by the mountain rescue teams. In winter there aren’t no avalanches.
