Autumn In The Central Balkan National Park
Sopot town - Dobrila hut - Vasil Levski hut - Karlowo town
This walk is located in the middle of Bulgaria on the southern slopes of the Central Balkan National Park. It combines amazing autumnal colours, nights in cozy huts and delicious food. We have chosen for you this three-day walk because it is full of variety: The first day is along a ridge above the Balkan town of Sopot. The second day is a traverse beneath the alpine main spine of the mountain. All the day you can contemplate not only the rocky peaks but also the forests from above. The third day is along the Stara Reka River, area that was designated as a reserve in 1981 to preserve the unique eco-system! The finishing point is the historical town of Karlovo.

Day1one
Start of the trip
Sopot - Dobrila
You will be met near your hotel and transferred by a car to the town of Sopot. From there starts the hike to the hut Dobrila. The path is going up steeply to the main crest of the mountain. From this point to the hut, the terrain is mild and safe, without any substantial ascending and descending.
If there are concerns with the path at the start of it and it looks too steep, you can take the chai-lift of Sopot. Come off the chairlift and take the yellow-marked path north-northeast and you will reach Dobrila. This takes about 2 h. If you want to add some more walking to this day, you can climb Ambaritsa Peak (2166m) for about 2h round trip. To climb the peak from Dobrila, take the red path northeast. After climbing the peak come down on the same path going back to Dobrila.

Hut to hut hike
Dobrila - Levski
Walk from the hut Dobrila to the hut Vasil Levski.
It is a pleasant southern traverse of the most alpine part of the Mountain. All the way to the hut Vasil Levski provides good panoramas to the mighty peaks around. Above the path are the rocky and steep slopes of the peaks on the main ridge.
Vasil Levski hut is a nice spot for a night rest. In autumn the atmosphere is calm and relaxed without the usual summer crowds.

Day3three
End of the trip
Vasil Levski - Karlovo
Walk from the hut Vasil Levski to the town of Karlovo.
This route is one of the most scenic routes in Stara Planina because it follows the Stara Reka which is designated as a natural reserve.
The path will show you different views from the previous days, changing the pointy, rocky ridges with a beautiful and cool beech forest. In the end you will reach the town of Karlovo.
From the town of Karlovo you will be transferred back to Sofia.
